Janis Joplin's Wrist Tattoo - A Symbol of Feminine Power

Janis Joplin
Janis Lyn Joplin born on January 19, 1943 was unassailable one of the biggest if not the biggest female rock star idol in the history. Janis's nickname was Pearl. Somewhere in the 60's she buried the old Janis Lyn and started the second part of her life as Pearl. "I'm tired of being Janis, call me Pearl" she said. Not only Janis Joplin but her wrist tattoo as well are still a subject of imagination to many.

Janis Joplin's Wrist Tattoo
Her wrist tattoo is not only a symbol of the legend Janis Joplin still is but also a symbol for the liberation of women. The design represents a Florentine bracelet and was placed on her outer wrist. The tattoo is black, with a mix of another color. The exact colors are difficult to determine because of the fact that there are only a few black and white photos of the design available. A Florentine bracelet is a historic piece of jewelry. Fifteenth century century Florentine goldsmiths engraved metal with a chisel and filled up the engraved ornaments with a compound made of lead, sulfur and silver. The result was a highly contrasting very visible design. Just like Janis ,one of the first famous wearers of a wrist tattoo in modern pop culture, being very visible and contrasting.Janis Joplin said this about her tattoo: "I wanted some decoration. See, the one on my wrist is for everybody; the one on my tit is for me and my friends." She paused and chuckled, "Just a little treat for the boys, like icing on the cake."

Lyle Tuttle
Lyle Tuttle born in 1931 is one of the biggest legends in the tattooing industry. He started his tattooing career in 1949. Tuttle has had a great positive influence into taking tattooing from underground to mainstream. The great artist tattooed the famous design on Janis's wrist in his shop on Seventh Street in San Francisco. When asked for his explanation for the fact that tattoos gained popularity in the 1950's he replied: "Women's liberation! One hundred percent women's liberation!" Women were free to get a tattoo if they wanted. This development resulted in Tuttle tattooing almost nothing but women and changed the perspective tattooing was in. "Women made tattooing a softer and kinder art form." Tuttle said. Lyle Tuttle retired from tattooing in 1990.

Janis Joplin's Wrist Tattoo as a Symbol of Female Power.
Tuttle's most well known clients are pop stars Janis Joplin and Cher. These are both women who are known for being strong. Their tattoos have certainly contributed to image. Joplin is said to brake that male barrier. She made women stronger, more assertive and self confident. That must be one of the reasons the Florentine bracelet design is a very popular design for a wrist tattoo for women until today. On October 4, 1970 Janis Joplin died on her hotel room as a result of a heroin overdose.

Tattoo Styles to Die For

If you're thinking about getting a tattoo, one of the first things you should ask yourself is what tattoo styles you think would look best on your body. There are hundreds of different tattoo styles out there but are you really getting one that will go well with your skin color, hair and overall style? Let's take a look:

What You Perceive

What you perceive of yourself is not always what others perceive. For this reason, it is a good idea to talk to anyone in your life that can help you get perspective on your tattoo styles and what they may affect on your overall appearance. Talk to them about how you will look, what your body could use in terms of color and how it will appear to others.

Knowing the Overall Theme

If you ride motorcycles a fluffy pink bunny might not be your thing. You should try to find something that matches both your outward style and your personality. Look for books with tattoo styles in them and ideas for what your designs might look like. There are hundreds of options out there to choose from - you just need to start looking for them.

What the Design Says about You

Learn what your design says about you by checking into other people with similar tattoo styles. Watch tattoo shows on A&E or go to tattoo shows in major convention centers. You can even talk to your tattoo artist to see what they think about given tattoo styles - any of these methods is a good idea.

In the end, if you take the time to research and check out potential tattoo styles, you'll have a much easier time figuring out what works on your body and how you can put together the ultimate tattoo package for your skin. Just don't go into that parlor without a little research and you'll be set.

Tattoo Design Galleries - Use Online Galleries So Your Tattoo Won't Suck

Too many people make the mistake of getting a tattoo without first researching using tattoo design galleries. The result is they end up making a hasty decision at the tattoo shop and get permanent ink of something they do not like. Doing your research now, and finding the perfect tattoo for you is a vital step to take before getting inked.

Why else is using online tattoo design galleries important? Maybe one of the better benefits that many do not think of is your ability to print off the tattoo designs you like and take them to your tattoo parlor. This way, you ensure you are getting exactly what you want. It also provides an interesting way to test drive your tattoo. You can print and cut out the tattoo and then simply apply to your body and check it out. IF you like what you see, you are in business.

Finding great tattoo design galleries online is also important to those who are looking for some originality in their tattoo. While many shops have what appears to be a large selection, keep in mind that those selections are being looked at and decided on by every single customer that enters the door! By researching online, you get access to thousands of unique designs that would generally not be available at the shop.

Probably the best way to go is to print off two or three designs that you like, and then take them to your local parlor to see if there is something similar already being offered there. If so, you may want to consider researching some more, unless you do not mind have the same tattoo as someone else.

One final piece of advice is to talk to the artist on staff to make sure they are comfortable and confident they can recreate the design you have in mind. Most shops have experience and professional staff members, but it is always helpful to ask. Tattoo design galleries will certainly enhance your tattoo experience.

If you are thinking of getting a tattoo, it is a decision to make carefully. Once you put a tattoo on, it is a permanent commitment. So, before you decide to put a tattoo on your body make sure you carefully consider where to put it. As a woman, you want to come up with a sexy location for that tattoo. Here are the top 5 sexy spots to have a tattoo:

On Your Hip - The hip is a great place to place that tattoo if you want it to be sexy. Between low rider jeans, that will show off a little bit of your tat, to bikini weather, which will really show it off, it will draw all eyes to it and get the attention of any guy in the area.

Tailbone - The tailbone is a perfect place for a sexy tattoo. This will really show off when you lean up to get a drink and everyone gets a small peek of the tattoo. They will be chomping at a bit wanting to see
the rest of it.

Just Above the Pubic Area - There is not much more sexy than a tattoo just above the pubic area. It is a site of intrigue and interest of every man who sees it, a tease, if you will, of what else may be hidden.

Sexy Tattoo Ideas For Women - Classy Yet Sexy Feminine Tattoos

The first thing you want to think about is what you want in a tattoo-do you want a specific shape or graphic, or something that is a tattoo artist's original design? Or maybe you want a word or character, whether in English, another language with Roman characters, or something in Gaelic, Chinese, or Russian, for example. The best advice is just to be creative and have fun with this-it's all up to you, after all.

Based on what specific image you have in mind, that will be related to where you will want to put it-for example, you wouldn't want a tattoo of angel wings on your face, would you? On your back, though, that's a completely different story. One idea that's really popular right now is to get a ring of flowers or a word or phrase spelled out tattooed around your belly button, waist, wrist, or ankle.

Other locations which are less image-specific which are really hot right now include the upper chest, inner thigh, hand, hip, lower back, upper back, back of neck, shoulder (front or back), and toes and fingers.

Some classic images for women have always been hearts and flowers. With the talent and creativity of today's tattoo artists (and yourselves!), though, almost anything is possible. Particularly interesting when designing or selecting the perfect tattoo for you is the wide variety of colors from which you can choose. There's also different kinds of ink out there from which you can choose, depending on what you're looking for.

One thing that's really great about tattoos is how much freedom you have when you make your selection(s). Since tattoos can be about expressing yourself to the world, if you can dream it, a talented tattoo artist can make it yours.

The most important thing about the decision process, however, is that you have fun with it. Knowing what you want is part of what makes you unique, but you don't have to go it alone-hence why there are tattoo ideas for women available here!

Tattoo Shops Boom During Recession

They say the industries of vice are the ones that do well during recessions. People will, after all, always buy cigarettes and booze when things are down. Well now it appears as though they will need to add tattoos the equation.

It's been a might rough couple of years. Whether you call it a Mild Depression or Great Recession, it is the rare person that hasn't been stressed out by the current economic situation. When the economy goes bad, historically people smoke and drink and...well, do other adult things. If the statistics coming out are accurate, lots of people are also getting tattoos!

Tattoo shops are seeing tons of business despite the recession. This is somewhat of a surprise given the nature of a tattoo. While getting inked is no longer something on the edge of society, there is little doubt the cost of doing it is still pretty expensive. This is why it is somewhat surprising to find that so many people who are otherwise trying to cut there expenses are spending hundreds or thousands on tattoos.

There is, of course, a secondary reason why most tattoo artists still have waiting lists. The reason comes down to how people view their ink. Most view a tat as a form of art work that means something particular. With this in mind, they take the time to really map out what they want and then hunt for an artist that can meet there needs. The best artists usually have waiting lists, and that fact converts the tattoo from an impulse purchase to more of a well thought out effort. With this conversion comes a greater commitment to the tat.

Where there is demand, there must be supply. The current state of the tattoo industry is such that there are not enough tattoo artists or shops. As a result, the industry is seeing a booming business when it comes to the expansion of existing shops or the opening of new ones. This is a pretty amazing development when you think it through. Can you even name one other business group that is EXPANDING these days?

The world of tats is such that ink is so popular these days that not even a Great Recession can slow the momentum down. This will not always be the case, but it is still pretty amazing to see these days.

Hot New Tattoo Ideas For Girls

Have you always wanted a tattoo, but never been quite sure about what to get? Afraid that what you choose will go out of style? There are so many choices-it's like eating at one of those restaurants where everything looks good, and you have 7 pages of entrees alone to pick from. But now, however, there is help-here are some great new tattoo ideas for girls.

One of the first things to think about when you are making a choice about a tattoo is location. Part of the location decision depends on who you want to be seeing the tattoo. If what you want is something that everyone will see, the ankle, the upper back/shoulder area, and the upper arm are some places which are really popular right now.

For the more intimate tattoo, ones around your belly button, on your upper chest, on an inner thigh, or on your lower back would be a great location. Another popular idea is to get just a very small one on one of your hips-that way it will still be visible when you wear a bathing suit, but it's subtle enough that you don't have to worry about your teachers or interviewers seeing it!

Similar to the belly button concept, a lot of girls are getting tattooed-on "toe rings" right now, as well as rings on their fingers and bracelets on their wrists and ankles. The back of your neck is also a great place to have a tattoo, especially if you have hair that usually covers it-just catching a glimpse of it will drive a guy wild.

Then of course you have to decide what you want, exactly, your tattoo to be of. There are the basics like hearts, stars, butterflies, and Chinese characters, but there's also a large number of other things from which you can choose. Why not try a Gaelic character or word, or something you've seen on a Mah Jong tile? Better yet, design your own tattoo-you can create it out of combinations of shapes and colors and have the artist draw it on you to your specifications.

Colors are also a great way to have fun designing your tattoo. With the technology that's currently available, you can get almost color you want in your tattoo, and as many different colors to it as you could possibly imagine!

How to Stop Your New Tattoo From Becoming Infected

One of the last things that someone thinks about when they decide to get a tattoo is how to care for it. Caring for new tattoos is a necessity, especially if you expect to maintain them for any length of time. It has often been said that the first week is the most crucial for healing, but it is actually the first 4 to 6 weeks. The steps that you take in order to care for your new tattoos are going to be very important in regards to keeping them from becoming infected.

Here are some tips that will be necessary in caring for your new tattoo:

1. Remember your tattooist exact instructions when you leave his or her shop. Most tattooist can write down or already have available advice and tips on how to care for new tattoos, so just be sure that you ask.

2. Understand that you are at a risk for infection if you do not follow the directions. Once you get an infection, you are going to be in trouble. An infection can greatly lengthen the healing process and make everything so much more uncomfortable than it already is.

3. Wear your bandage. Ask your tattooist exactly how long he or she recommends that you wear it. Some people will have to only wear their bandages for no more than 24 hours while others have to wear them much longer. It just depends on how sensitive your skin is, how much it is broken from the tattoo, and how big it is. No matter what, make sure that you wear it; it will help to prevent infection from arising.

4. Make sure that when you are washing, that you wash with lukewarm water, or the warmest water that you can stand at the time.

5. Remove the blood with your hands when washing the tattoo, not a wash cloth. A wash cloth can be a bit too much and can cause irritation to the skin. It is best to keep those traces of blood removed in order to prevent unnecessary scabbing. 6. Do not pick at it. This might cause sores and more bleeding, which could lead to infection. Just remember to keep it clean.

7. Keep it away from salt water and sunlight until it has healed. You do not want your tattoo to fade or damage in any way. Not to mention that if you were to do either, it would hurt beyond belief.

8. Do not forget to apply ointment. Ask your tattooist which ointment is recommended for maximum healing. Keep the ointment applied, and do not stop applying until your tattooist gives the okay.

9. Avoid taking long baths and showers. You do not want your new work of art to lose any ink. Focus on taking quick showers.

10. Keep all other chemicals away from your tattoo, even soap. Do not attempt to wash it or shave it. If you use shaving cream, be sure to apply the cream around the tattoo. Too many chemicals can ruin it. It generally takes anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to heal. Once it has healed, then you are free to sunbathe, take long showers, baths, or whatever else you desire to do.

Chances are that your tattoo is going to be just fine, but like anything else that is in a healing process, special attention is needed. You may even need to continue to apply lotion to it for a while just to make sure that the skin stays moist, fresh, and does not crack or peel too much. A tattoo is a good investment no matter what way you look at it. Taking proper care of it is the best thing you can do for your investment, and for your skin.

Ankle Tattoos - Getting to High Quality Artwork Galleries

When you are picking through galleries full of ankle tattoos, are you seeing decent stuff? I shouldn't even have to ask that question, but there is a real problem now, because the average person sees nothing but generic, cookie cutter junk. Here's the solution to this, so you can fly right to places that post original, high quality ankle tattoos.
If you want to plaster a generic tattoo on your skin, nobody can really stop you from doing it. Most of us don't want to get some cookie cutter design put on our body, though. It's just human nature to want to get something that fits "us". With that said, your mind can change drastically if all you see is the same generic stuff over and over again. This happens with regularity if you are using a search engine to look for ankle tattoos.

That's my first tip. Try not to rely on search engines for this, because the lists they generate are awful. It's one big listing of generic laced sites, which fill up their pages with any cookie cutter artwork they can grab. This might seem like a big blow to your searching ways, but you have much better options when looking for amazing ankle tattoos. This option would be forums. Big forums, actually. Absolutely nothing is better at giving you the inside scoop on where the fresh, original, quality artwork is.

You can find this inside info because of the huge archive section that every single big forum has. This is where you want to be. These huge collections of topics are the key, because you have instant access to hundreds of tattoo related topics. Scanning them will give you the info you need, which always includes many posts where people have told others about the big, high quality galleries they've run across. That's the type of site to skim through ankle tattoos, because they tend to have much better artwork. The search engine listings don't even compare.

It's a different approach to locating the best ankle tattoos, but it's the one way that actually works.

Find Good Tattoos For Girls - Get Directly to the Better Artwork

When you jump online to find good tattoos for girls, are you disappointed by the quality of the artwork? I happens so often, because most people end up getting brought to sites that will post any generic, cookie cutter artwork they can get their paws on, simply to fill up their database. You don't have to go through that, because there's an easier way to find loads of good tattoos for girls.

Everything depends on how you start "looking" for tattoo websites. The bad part is that 90% of us do it the wrong way, which brings us to an unlimited amount of generic laced galleries. The wrong way would of course be the use of search engines. They have become so unreliable now, to the point of becoming useless. Instead of getting this nice list of galleries that have good tattoos for girls, you get the same run down sites that throw up cookie cutter junk.

That's why you need to change your searching ways. The great news is that it's easy to do and it's a much, much better way to find original, crisp, well drawn tattoo designs. I am talking about using forums. Big forums, actually. It doesn't matter if you love forums or despise them. You only need one part of the forum any way, which would be the archive section. Good tattoos for girls are just around the corner, because these archives are usually jam packed with topics about tattoo art. It's always a huge subject.

Hundreds of these topics should be available for you to skim through. You want to browse through them, because it's where women from all over the globe has shared their input and knowledge, including posting about the wonderful galleries they have found recently. It's your way to uncover the high quality tattoo sites that search engines always fail to bring up when you want to see good tattoos for girls. The difference in quality and originality is astounding.

It's always worth your effort when you can spend more time at places that post large amounts of good tattoos for girl.
